Steamboat skier leads Americans at FIS Junior Worlds

— Steamboat Springs skier Cliff Field led the Americans in today’s opening Nordic combined competition at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in Otepaa, Estonia.

Field finished 19th in a HS100/10-kilometer event, less than three minutes behind winner Johannes Rydzek of Germany.

Slovenia’s Marjan Jelenko was second, and Estonia’s Kaarel Nurmsalu was third. Nick Hendrickson of Park City, Utah, was 22nd, followed by a pair of Steamboat skiers, Michael Ward in 36th and Erik Lynch in 42nd.

The next event is a HS100/5-kilometer event Saturday.

Hey, don't forget about the women ski jumpers at Junior Worlds in Estonia. Although none of these women are from Steamboat, they have all competed at Howelsen numerous times and are great people and great athletes:

The Visa Women’s Ski Jumping Team was led by Sarah Hendrickson in 18th place. Nita Englund was 28th, Avery Ardovino 37th, and Nina Lussi 38th.
