Steamboat girls baskeball defense tops Palisade

— The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team rode its defense Friday at Palisade in a game where points were hard to come by.

Steamboat beat Palisade, 43-27, and could take control of its own future with a win today at Delta.

“Our defense was outstanding tonight,” Steamboat coach John Ameen said. “They had some good post players and players that could take it to the hole. We were able to create some instability on their end.”

Steamboat led, 25-20, at half and held Palisade to just one point in the third quarter and extended the lead to 30-21.

The Sailors finally started to get something going offensively in the second half.

Tara Spitellie led Steamboat (8-6 overall, 3-1 in league) with 16 points. Hannah Moore added 14.
