Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs boys basketball team struggled without leading scorer Charles Wood, falling 47-44 to Palisade on Friday.
Without Wood, who was out with bronchitis, the Sailors had no semblance of an inside game and trailed the entire way.
The Sailors were able to get back into it during the second half and had a chance to tie with nine seconds left but missed a 3-pointer.
Seniors Isiah Mendoza-Forsyth and Justin Anderson combined for 35 of the team’s 44 points.
“It’s one of those things, we have to find an inside presence,” Steamboat coach Luke DeWolfe said. “Defensively, we didn’t play horribly but had lapses.”
Steamboat (7-7, 2-2) resumes play at 3:30 p.m. today at Delta.
