Steamboat girls basketball team hits key game this weekend

Team plays against Palisade and Delta this weekend

2010-11 Sailors girls basketball schedule

— Just three games into the Western Slope League season, the Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team has hit its most crucial road trip of the year.

The team plays at 6 p.m. today at Palisade and at 2 p.m. Saturday at Delta.

Should Steamboat (7-6, 2-1) walk away with two wins, the team likely will be at the top of its conference and in control of its future. Two losses, or a 1-1 outcome, and Steamboat could be on the outside looking in.

“This weekend is big. We win both of these games, there is going to be a three-way tie for first,” Steamboat coach John Ameen said.

“This league is tight with Delta, Glenwood, Moffat and us.”

Palisade relies on its forwards and grit to get wins, and Delta returns the most experienced team in the league.
