Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School boys basketball team has played well at the beginning of games, at the end of games and in some stretches in between.
Playing well in those stretches has helped the Sailors to seven wins, but coach Luke DeWolfe said as the Sailors prepare to get into a pair of road league games, finding consistency for four quarters is instrumental.
Steamboat plays at 7:30 p.m. today at Palisade and at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Delta.
“We really need complete games with no lapses in our offense or defense,” he said.
Palisade relies on the outside shot and a man defense predicated on traps to make opponents uncomfortable, and Delta likes to pound the ball inside and get up and down.
For Steamboat (7-6, 2-1) to be successful and stay in the league race, DeWolfe said the Sailors must control the pace of play in the games.
“The kids just have to be ready to go,” DeWolfe said.
