Steamboat Springs The Hayden High School boys basketball team will look to continue its string of lopsided victories today when it takes on De Beque at 5:30 p.m. in Hayden.
The Tigers are coming off two wins of more than 20 points, including a 77-45 throttling of North Park last weekend.
De Beque, meanwhile, enters the game winless and coming off of a 72-21 loss to that same North Park team.
In the face of what shouldn’t be a tight one, Hayden coach Mike Luppes said his team will focus on problems that have plagued it in close games.
“One of the things we need to do to be successful is blocking out,” Luppes said. “We are out-rebounding teams, but we’re not doing a good job blocking out, and when we do come up against that talented big guy, that will give us big problems.”
The potential for a third lopsided game could mean big minutes for the bench.
“We’ll work hard in the game, and if we’re in a position to play some kids, that will be great experience,” Luppes said. “Getting that game time gives them confidence, and that will assist us down the road.”
