Steamboat briefs: Howelsen ski area looking for volunteer ambassadors

Steamboat Springs The city of Steamboat Springs Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services Department is looking for friendly, outgoing volunteers to educate Nordic trail users about appropriate use of the facility.
Volunteers must complete the city application and background check process. Work hours will count toward a 2010-11 Howelsen Hill Nordic pass. For more information, call 970-879-4300.
Horizons program seeks volunteer client mentors
Horizons Specialized Services is seeking caring, committed individuals to serve as one-on-one mentors to developmentally disabled clients. For more information, call volunteer coordinator Rebecca Hanson at 970-879-4466, ext. 111.
Library’s Guys Read book club ongoing through April
The Bud Werner Library introduces the new Guys Read book club for boys ages 8 to 12 and their dads or older male figure. Guys Read will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month through April in the library’s Teen Project Room. Each meeting will be led by a local guy celebrity. Register and pick up books at the Kids’ Desk or call 970-879-0240, ext. 313. Space is limited to 10 pairs per meeting.
