Steamboat Springs The Soroco High School boys basketball team split a pair of games during the weekend, beating De Beque, 57-43, on Friday before falling, 60-55, on Saturday to Vail Mountain.
Against De Beque, the two teams battled for much of the first half. De Beque led early in the second half, before Soroco went on a run.
The Rams outscored the Dragons, 35-22, in the second half to run away with the game.
Against Vail Mountain, Soroco trailed throughout. The team was down 11 at halftime and trailed by eight going into the fourth quarter. The Rams cut the Gore Rangers’ lead to 56-55 late, but Vail Mountain hit two shots to secure the win.
Soroco now prepares to go on the road Tuesday in a district preliminary tournament game. The Rams won’t know until today what team they play.
“We’re scoring some points in the second half,” Rams coach Andy Johnson said. “That’s a good thing going into the tournament. Our offensive production is getting better. We just have to figure out how to play better at the start.”
