Steamboat Springs The Sven Wiik Cup Nordic Race Series wraps up Saturday with the fifth annual Ski Marathon at Lake Catamount.
The event, which begins at 9 a.m., feature five races of varying length — 1.5, 5, 12, 20 and 40 kilometers.
All races start and finish just west of the Lake Catamount Touring Center across from Routt County Road 18.
Classic skiers in the 5-, 12-, 20- and 40-kilometer races will start at 9 a.m. The 20- and 40-kilometer freestyle races begin at 9:05 a.m.; the 5- and 12-kilometer races begin at 9:10 a.m.; and the 1.5-kilometer race begins at 9:11 a.m.
“We just get people from all over, just because it’s a longer race,” Race Director Dave Miller said. “It’s on a rolling terrain.
“It doesn’t have really steep climbs, and it’s got a beautiful venue.”
Miller encouraged all racers and spectators to park in front of the Touring Center and not at the start/finish area.
In addition to the race, lunch will be served to racers at the Lake House Restaurant and there will be a post-race raffle.
Miller said anyone interested in participating can sign up at www.steamboatxcski.org. Registration costs vary.
Early online registrations range from $20 to $40. The costs go up between $10 and $15 for day-of registration at the venue.
Barring the unexpected, Brian Tate should win the race series’ overall men’s title, and Tammy Jacques should win the women’s overall title.
