Now is the time for local athletes considering competing in either of this summer’s triathlons in Steamboat Springs to take advantage of discounted registrations.
A number of changes are taking place this year for local triathletes. The annual Steamboat Triathlon, scheduled for Aug. 28, has been extended to Olympic distance. A new sprint-distance triathlon will take place July 24 at Steamboat Lake.
Locals can register for the Olympic distance race for $75 until midnight Tuesday. All returning racers can register for $80 until Saturday.
The new pricing goes along with a change in management for the events. Without Limits Productions has taken over both the triathlons, replacing a local consortium that was saddled with the job for the past two years.
“I’m very excited about it,” said Joy Rasmussen, who served as race director during that span. “They put on more than 30 races a year, so they have the equipment, manpower, excitement and energy to pull it off.”
Rasmussen will still play a role in the event’s organization and oversee sponsorships.
She said the addition of an Olympic-distance event, plus the contributions of Without Limits should help the races draw a wide collection of athletes that hasn’t been possible in the past.
