Steamboat Springs The Sailors girls basketball team never lost its composure during a four-minute scoring drought in the second quarter, and made key free throws down the stretch to defeat Palisade, 49-44, on Friday night.
Hannah Moore led the team with 18 points, Tara Spitellie chimed in with 8, and Alex Feeley and Eryn Rinck scored 7 apiece.
“Alex played well,” coach John Ameen said. “That’s what we need — other players besides Hannah and Tara to step up and score for us.”
Spitellie said she and her teammates never succeeded in executing their offense consistently.
“Palisade definitely clamped down on us and made it tough,” Spitellie said. “But we didn’t do the things we need to do on offense.”
The win boosted the Sailors to 11-9 overall and 6-4 in league play.
