County Manager Tom Sullivan reported Friday that Routt County Commissioner Nancy Stahoviak was due to be taken sometime during the day to Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver where she was to undergo shoulder replacement surgery.

Stahoviak, a wheelchair user, suffered multiple injuries Tuesday morning when the van she was a passenger in lost control while traveling north on Colorado Highway 131 and turned onto its side.

Stahoviak’s husband, Ron, who was driving the van, and another passenger were unhurt.

Sullivan said Stahoviak called the commissioners’ administrative assistant, Dolores Rode, at mid-morning Friday and sounded reassuring.

“Dolores said that Nancy sounded very good, just anxious to get the surgeries over and back to work,” Sullivan said.

Stahoviak, who has endured lengthy recuperation from previous surgical procedures in the past, will undergo physical therapy before she can resume her seat at the commissioners’ hearing table. But during previous convalescences, Stahoviak has worked remotely by telephone conference call.

“As soon as possible, Nancy will come back to the Doak Walker Care Center (in Steamboat Springs) for physical therapy,” Sullivan said.

He added that he had spoken with Ron Stahoviak earlier Friday morning and learned that surgeons at Yampa Valley Medical Center completed a surgical procedure on Nancy Stahoviak at about 5 p.m. Thursday.

“The surgeons straightened her left leg and put it in a splint,” Sullivan said. At that time, the surgeons in Steamboat were consulting with a specialist to determine the best strategy for repairing her shoulder.

“Nancy and Ron appreciate the thoughtful words and prayers that have been expressed,” Sullivan said. “Keep them in your thoughts.”

Stahoviak’s constituents can send greetings to her through the Routt County Government Facebook page.

I wonder if because the driver was cited in this crash if the auto insurance is covering Nancy's injury bill? Transportation to denver is not cheap.

Get well soon.
