Steamboat Springs For a quarter and a half, the Soroco boys basketball team battled right with Vail Christian.
Then the 6 minute, 7 second mark of the second quarter hit.
The Saints turned a relatively tight game early in the second quarter into a blowout, running away with an 83-46 win. Vail Christian was leading, 25-18, at the 6:07 mark before it started to turn Soroco over at will.
From the 6:07 mark to the 4:21 mark of the third quarter, the Saints outscored the Rams, 34-4, to take a 59-22 lead.
“Chalk it up to we didn’t practice against a good press,” said Soroco coach Andy Johnson, whose team turned the ball over 37 times. “Our transition defense was really poor. We’d let them go in spurts where we’d let them get easy baskets.”
Michael Rossi led the Rams with 13 points, and AJ Anderson added 11.
Soroco (3-9) next plays at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Hayden.
