Benefits available to some stop loss military members
Military service members who where required to stay in the military beyond their discharge date (stop loss) might be eligible for $500 a month or partial month for additional time served. Service members, veterans and beneficiaries of service members who were involuntarily extended under stop loss between Sept. 11, 2001, and Sept. 30, 2009, are eligible.
Congress set aside $534.4 million to pay out to service members who were placed in a stop loss status. The deadline is fast approaching. The application process is simple and straightforward, but once the deadline passes, the application process cannot by law be extended. Learn more at www.defense.gov/stoploss.
