Winter Sports Club's Serena Kidd remains on top in SmartWool series

The jump from J4 girls to J3 girls Alpine skiing wasn’t a huge deal for Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club member Serena Kidd.

The dryland training increased along with the quality of the competition, but Kidd just kept on winning.

The 14-year-old skier who moved to Steamboat full time last season is first in the SmartWool Alpine Series standings. Kidd has a 41-point lead over second place Katy Harris with four races to go.

“I’ve already qualified for Junior Olympics,” Kidd said. “I want to win one of the Junior Olympic races and go to the Whistler Cup in Canada.”

Steamboat’s Chandler Sedberry is sixth in the girls series. On the boys side, Zak Kjos also is sixth.

The series continues Feb. 26 and 27 at Durango Mountain Resort with giant slalom and slalom races.
