— Law enforcement officials were hesitant to release more details Tuesday related to the Saturday raid of a Hayden home suspected of housing a methamphetamine lab.

“I understand people are curious,” All Crimes Enforcement Team Cmdr. Marvin Cameron said Tuesday. “The need for the continued investigation outweighs the curiosity at this point.”

No one was home when police served the search warrant, and they said they had yet to contact the person renting the home at 340 E. Jefferson Ave.

“We’re doing everything we can to contact this party,” Cameron said.

The owners of the home also did not want to release the name of their tenant.

Cameron refused to provide details of the raid, citing an ongoing investigation. He would not say what chemicals were found or whether there were any drugs.

Routt County Sheriff Garrett Wiggins and his deputies helped with the raid. On Monday, Wiggins said “very explosive and flammable” materials were taken from the home. Recovered materials included lethal chemicals used in the making of meth, Wiggins said. He also said a “death bag” — a garbage bag used to trap toxic gases produced while making meth — was removed from the home.

Wiggins also refused to release the suspect’s name Tuesday because it is ACET’s investigation, and he said he did not want to “step on their toes.” He has said the suspect is a previous offender in Routt County who on more than one occasion was arrested on suspicion of meth-related charges.

Saturday’s raid was a spectacle in Hayden. It took place on the town’s main street, U.S. Highway 40, which is Jefferson Avenue in Hayden. The road was closed for 14 hours Saturday along the one-block stretch from Pine to Aspen streets.
