Steamboat briefs: Stocking drawing tickets still available at library

Steamboat Springs The eighth annual “Sock it to Me” holiday stocking drawing program for teens is ongoing through December at Bud Werner Memorial Library. During December, teens in sixth-grade and older will receive a ticket for a drawing each time they visit the library and check something out. The drawing is for a stocking full of books, movies and more and takes place Jan. 3. Teens do not need to be present to win.
Veterans Affairs clinics to be closed Monday to Jan. 2
All Veterans Affairs clinics will be closed Monday to Jan. 2. The Grand Junction VA emergency room will be open during that time. Patients who need nonemergency medical advice can call the medical center’s front desk at 970-263-2800 or toll free at 1-866-206-6415.
Registration now open for It’s a Girl Thing book club
Registration for It’s a Girl Thing, a book-discussion series for girls and women, is open at Bud Werner Memorial Library. The free program continues throughout the winter and is open to girls ages 10 to 12 and a woman partner such as a mom, grandma, friend or teacher. There will be four books in the series themed “Bending Time.” Registration is limited and open through December. Food for Fines program is ongoing through December
During December, children ages 17 and younger can “pay” overdue fines at Bud Werner Memorial Library by participating in the library’s annual Food for Fines program. The library will waive $2 of overdue fines for every one can or box of food children bring to the library. All food will be donated to LIFT-UP of Routt County Food Bank.
