Steamboat Springs Steamboat Springs snowboarders continue to tear it up.
A week after finishing second at the Grand Prix, Steamboat’s Maddy Schaffrick followed it up Saturday with a fourth-place finish at the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge.
Schaffrick, who qualified first in the semifinals, finished with an 80. Kelly Clark was the top woman with a 91.25.
“I’m really just having fun with it,” said Schaffrick, who missed 18 months with a knee injury. Saturday marked her second competition of the year. “I’ve been feeling confident with it. It’s been a year and a half off, and all of a sudden I’ve been fueling for so long I’m finally going full throttle.”
Schaffrick said that she didn’t feel any pressure during the week but that when the finals hit, she wanted to win.
“I guess the only expectation I had of myself was to try and keep my head cool,” she said. “I was going to have fun with it but try and land a run.”
Also finishing well was Steamboat’s Matt Ladley. Despite competing with a shattered wrist, Ladley placed sixth on Saturday. His score of 84 was 11 points behind the eventual winner, Shaun White.
