Stagecoach State Park hosts a dog sled race, sponsored by the Stagecoach Property Owner’s Association and the Colorado Mountain Mushers, on Jan. 7 and 8. The state park is seeking volunteers to help make the inaugural event a success. Volunteer opportunities include: gate attendant, parking attendant, publicity, cleanup crew, post race results and dog handling. HPV vaccine recommended for males ages 11 to 26
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recently announced that the HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine now is recommended for boys and men ages 11 to 26. This is a cancer-prevention vaccine that protects men against head and neck cancers and anal cancer, all of which have been on the rise, according to a release from the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association. The vaccine also prevents genital warts in men, which increases risk of other sexually transmitted infections. The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association offers the HPV vaccine by appointment for $14 per shot. To make an appointment, call 970-879-1632.

Hayden Public Library is seeking a board member
The West Routt Library District, which oversees the operation of the Hayden Public Library, has an opening on its board of trustees. Anyone interested in applying can stop by the library, 201 E. Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association’s Women’s Health Clinic is offering free IUDs, Nuvaring and Implanon. Other birth control, STD screenings and general women’s health care also are offered free to low cost based on income. All income levels are welcome. Horizons seeks mentors for Routt, Moffat counties
Horizons Specialized Services is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors to individuals with developmental disabilities in Moffat and Routt counties. Volunteers spend at least three hours a month with Horizons clients. Activities can include hiking, biking, bowling, swimming, fishing, walks, etc. The group needs volunteers for swimming and boating programs.
