Steamboat Springs The Hayden High School wrestling team picked up a pile of top finishes Saturday at a tournament in West Grand.
T-Lane Mazzola fought his way to the tournament championship at 126 pounds, leading the way for his squad.
“The kids wrestled very well,” coach Chad Jones said. “I was really impressed with their effort. Overall, we got a lot of pins. We ended up with 20 pins in 24 wins.”
Mazzola helped in that stat, picking up two pins before winning in the finals via a 5-3 decision.
Hayden got second-place finishes from Chad Terry at 145 pounds, Ryan Domson at 170, and Taylor Lewis at 152.
It was Terry’s first action after recovering from an injury. Lewis, a freshman, had the best day of his career, and Domson had a good day but a disappointing finish.
Kent Miller was third at 113 pounds, Journey Vreeman was third at 132 and Tyler Paxton was third at 138, racking up four pins.
“I’m excited,” Jones said. “This just shows what a lucky coach I am for getting a good team.”
