Steamboat Springs The Hayden High School boys basketball team beat North Park, 59-41, on Friday night to even its record at 2-2. But today is when the Tigers will find out what they’re made of. The team had the chance to watch Little Snake River play at the Cowboy Shootout in Meeker last week, and if back-to-back state championships in Wyoming weren’t enough to impress, the Rattlers performance there was.
The teams play at 5:30 p.m. in Hayden.
“They only lost one important player off their team from last year, and they looked really good,” Hayden coach Mike Luppes said. “We’ll have to play our best game of the year to be with them at the end.”
On Friday the Tigers kept North Park at arm’s length throughout the game. Mark Doolin scored 16 while Jorge Valdez came just one point shy of a double-double, pulling down 13 boards to go with nine points. Dan Engle also got into double digits for Hayden, scoring 10.
Little Snake River “will be a big challenge for us,” Luppes said. “It will be good to see how we step up to that.”
