Steamboat Springs For the second straight game in the Flaming Gorge Classic, the Steamboat Springs boys basketball team was undone by its lack of offensive production.
Steamboat couldn’t seem to make any shots and had too many turnovers, losing 42-26 to Star Valley.
Steamboat shot 7 of 30 from the field, was 0-of-11 from the 3-point line, made just 12 of 20 free throws and threw in 19 turnovers in the game.
“All around offensively, we are not playing well,” coach Luke DeWolfe said. “It’s of our own doing. I don’t think it’s anything else teams are doing. It’s a lot of things that stack up. You throw some bad passes and turnovers into the mix, and it just adds up.”
Steamboat trailed 7-5 after one quarter and 18-12 at the half before Star Valley blew things open in the third quarter.
Steamboat (3-6) scored just two points in the third, and Star Valley took a 32-14 lead into the final frame.
“It’s about having confidence in each other,” DeWolfe said. “We’re back on our heels waiting for things to happen.”
Eric Trousil led the Sailors with nine points, and Jake Miller added seven.
Steamboat closes out the tournament at 11:45 a.m. Saturday against Evanston.
