Steamboat swimmers compete in Fort Collins

— Three members of the Old Town Hot Springs Tridents swim club competed in Fort Collins during the weekend.

Brenden Carta, 15, Samantha Terranova, 14, and Frank Ruppel, 13, swam at the competitive Front Range meet, and each logged some top finishes.

Terranova had state-qualifying times in the 200-yard freestyle, 400 individual medley and 200 backstroke. She was fifth in the 200 freestyle, second in the 400 IM, third in the 200 back, fifth in the 200 IM, fifth in the 100 back, sixth in the 100 free and sixth in the 100 butterfly.

Carta was eighth in the 200 fly, ninth in the 200 breast, ninth in the 100 breast, 10th in the 50 free, 14th in the 100 fly and 16th in the 100 free.

Ruppel was third in the 200 back, 4th in the 100 fly and 100 back, fifth in the 400 IM, seventh in the 200 free and 11th in the 200 IM and 100 free.

The team next competes Jan. 20 to 22 in Thornton.
