— I didn’t know what to expect when we launched an ambitious Best of the Boat survey exactly one year ago Thursday. I was confident it was a good idea (it wasn’t mine), and I knew our plan of execution was sound (it was made by someone smarter than me), but I wasn’t sure what reader response would be.

By the time the voting period ended Jan. 15, we had received 204,744 votes from 3,172 unique voters on 131 questions inquiring about everything from Steamboat’s best ski trail to its best margarita. We felt confident saying it was the most representative readers’ choice survey ever taken in Northwest Colorado.

The best part? It proved to be a lot of fun for the entire community as well as those who call Steamboat a second home or a regular vacation spot. In March, we packed The Steamboat Grand ballroom with residents and business owners who were named the top three in their respective categories. The standing-room-only launch party for the Best of the Boat issue of At Home in Steamboat Springs magazine was a lot of fun but not as much fun as seeing Best of the Boat awards framed and posted in businesses across town for the past year.

On Thursday, the Best of the Boat reader survey is back. Just like last year, it will be available online for one month. We’ve added some new questions and eliminated some old ones, but the rules are the same. The survey can be taken only once per person, and it’s accessed from ExploreSteamboat.com. Survey takers will have a chance to win a $500 Explore Steamboat shopping spree at local businesses. The survey results will be announced at a community party in March.

Best of the Boat is about recognizing the very best our community has to offer. We invite you, beginning Thursday, to make your vote count. If you have any questions about the survey, call Mike Polucci at 970-871-4215 or email mpolucci@SteamboatTV18.com
