— The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team got out and ran Monday at Aspen, coming away with a 56-39 win.

The Sailors (4-2) got out to an early 8-2 lead and never were really challenged.

Sydney Bauknecht hit two 3-pointers, and Alex Feeley scored on the break to give Steamboat a 17-8 lead after one quarter.

“Going back, it was again, ‘Are we playing harder and faster than our opponent?’” Steamboat coach John Ameen said. “We were doing that the whole game.”

Bauknecht paced the Sailors with 17 points. Nikki Fry had 12, and Feeley chipped in 11.

Steamboat next plays in the Green River, Wyo., tournament Thursday.

“That’s always a tough tourney as far as the teams we play,” Ameen said. “It’ll be a good test for us.”
