Steamboat Springs United States freestyle skiers threw down a string of great performances Saturday as the moguls World Cup season kicked off in Ruke, Finland.
Hannah Kerney won the event, her eighth consecutive moguls victory. Steamboat’s Eliza Outtrim, meanwhile, joined her on the podium finishing second. The pair was only part of a strong showing by the American women’s team as six skiers finished inside the top 12. Vail’s Heidi Kloser was sixth, Heather McPhie was eighth, KC Oakley was 11th and Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club skier Brittany Loweree was 12th.
“Something about the way the course is built really agrees with the way I ski,” Outtrim said in a U.S. Ski Team press release. “The bottom air is very wide open, a bit steep, but the landing is huge so you can come in and know you can go big.”
Sho Kashima was tops for the men’s team, finishing second for his first career podium. Among Steamboat skiers, Jeremy Cota finished sixth, Patrick Deneen was 10th and Ryan Dyer was 34th.
