The Steamboat Today will be wrapped in wrapping paper several times between now and Christmas. Readers can use the wrap to wrap gifts. Shown is the wrapping paper that will be used on Saturday's edition of the newspaper.
Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Today newspaper will come gift-wrapped Saturday in paper that readers can use to wrap holiday gifts.
Saturday’s wrapping paper is provided by sponsor Hot Steamboat Deals. The newspaper will be wrapped at least two more times before Christmas — Dec. 17 and Dec. 22 — in new designs provided by sponsor Steamboat Village Brokers.
“This was an idea that came to us from our sister newspaper in Lawrence, Kansas,” said Meg Boyer, the Steamboat Pilot & Today’s director of advertising. “There is a tradition of using newspaper to wrap gifts, and we thought why not take that a step further by actually designing wrapping paper and including it with the newspaper.”
The wrapping paper is 22 inches by 27 inches and is the ideal size for wrapping many gifts. It is printed on 50-pound newsprint, which is thicker and brighter than the paper traditionally used to print the newspaper, Boyer said.
Additional copies of the wraps are available at the newspaper office, 1901 Curve Plaza, and at the office of participating sponsors.
“We hope this can become an annual tradition,” Boyer said. “It is meant to be fun and festive and give readers a little more value with their morning newspaper.”
Sponsors interested in being part of the wrapping paper program should contact Boyer at 970-871-4218 or mboyer@SteamboatToday.com.
