Steamboat Springs Almost always good last season as a junior, Hayden’s Erin Koehler is well on her way to making her senior season great.
The Tigers’ center threw down 36 points Thursday night as Hayden improved to 4-0 with a 56-21 win against Vail Christian.
The team had little trouble picking apart Vail Christian’s zone defense, and no one took better advantage of the opportunities than Koehler.
“She just gets in a rhythm, and when she’s in a rhythm, they fall,” Hayden coach Michelle Wilkie said.
She was talking about Koehler’s shots, but she may as well have been talking about the Tigers opponents. No one’s held Koehler to single digits yet this season, and Thursday marked her second game scoring 35 or more.
“She’s a good shot, a good ballplayer, and she’s worked hard to get that far,” Wilkie said. “She had inside shots, little 10- and 12-foot jumpers from the baseline, from top of the key, and it was beautiful.”
Koehler was fed all night by a bevy of guards, who did some scoring of their own. Brette Frentress scored 6. Kelsey Rolando hit a pair of 3-point shots for 6. Savannah Williams had 4.
“Olivia Zehner and Brette and Savannah and Kelsey as wings were just really looking inside for both Aubree (Haskins) and Erin, so that was really nice,” Wilkie said.
