— The Niwot Cougars forced 21 turnovers Monday night en route to a 65-29 win against the Steamboat Springs High School boys basketball team in Niwot.

“When you give a good, athletic, strong team that many opportunities, they just jump all over you,” Steamboat coach Luke DeWolfe said.

The Sailors trailed by just 6 points at the end of the first quarter, but Niwot pushed the lead to 20 by halftime.

Jake Miller paced Steamboat with 14 points and four rebounds. Eric Trousil added 9 points and three rebounds for the Sailors.

The loss dropped Steamboat to 2-1 on the season. Niwot moved to 1-2.

Steamboat plays at home for the first time this season at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against Conifer. The game is the first of the eight-team Sailor Shootout.
