Steamboat women's hockey Chix back in action
Saturday, December 3, 2011
The Steamboat Chix with Stix women’s hockey team sits in a three-way tie for third in the Women’s Association of Colorado Hockey A2 division. The squad has racked up a 3-2 record after recent games against Denver’s Black Dogs and the Vail Breakaways.
Two of the Chix’s newest additions, sisters Laura and Cori Kalmes, are off to a fast start this season with 7 points between them, helping toward the team’s average of three goals per game.
The team is eagerly looking ahead to March’s tournament, an event the Chix will play host to at Howelsen Ice Arena in Steamboat Springs.
There’s plenty of hockey in the meantime, however. The Chix return to Howelsen Ice Arena at 9:15 p.m. Dec. 16 and at 8:45 a.m. Dec. 17, when they face off against the Colorado Springs Bliss.
“We are solid on both offense and defense, and we should be right in there when tournament time comes,” coach Tim Shorland said.
