Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School football team lost its opening game of the season Friday in Olathe, a 43-13 blowout.
Steamboat now has lost 12 straight games dating back to the 2009 Class 3A state championship game.
The Sailors trailed, 22-0, at halftime and were down 36-0 before senior Evan Hornstein scored to make it 36-7.
Skyler Kauf added a long touchdown run late in the game for the final result.
“The first quarter we were able to compete with them,” coach Lonn Clementson said. “Where we really struggled in the first half was big plays. That was from blown assignments. But I felt like the kids came out and played hard. They worked as hard as they could against a very, very good team.”
Steamboat next plays at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Holy Family.
