Seneca Coal Company LLC, 37796 CR 53, Hayden, CO 81639, has filed with the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology, an application (RN-06) for renewal of the current Seneca II Mining Permit No. C-80-005 pursuant to the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Act 34-33-101 et. seq. and the rules and regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board. The permit renewal shall be for a term of five (5) years.
The active Seneca II Mine Permit (State Permit No.
C-80-005, Federal Permit No. C0-006) was originally submitted to the Division on December 30, 1980 under Colorado's Permanent Regulatory Program and was subsequently approved on September 23, 1981. Five five-year renewals have been issued since Permit
C-80-005 was originally approved; the first on February 17, 1987, the second on February 17, 1992, the third on July 25, l997, the fourth on February 17, 2002, and current permit term was approved on February 17, 2007 and extends until February 2012.
In 2010, SCC reduced the size of the original Seneca II permit area to accommodate the new Peabody Sage Creek Mine (PSCM) permit area. The PSCM permit area includes approximately 3,011.9 acres of the original Seneca II permit area. The revised Seneca II permit area retains 386.5 acres of the original permit area that includes 271.0 disturbed acres.
The Seneca II Mine is located approximately nine (9) miles southeast of Hayden, Colorado. The specific area to which this bond release request applies is included in portions of the following sections located within the permit area:
Section 1: SE/4, Portions of NE/4NE/4SW/4 and S/2NE/4
Section 12: Portions of NE/4 and E/2NW/4
Section 6: W/2W/2SW/4
Section 7: W/2NW/4NW/4, N/2SW/4NW/4
All located west of the 6th Principal Meridian; totaling 386.5 acres.
The surface area is owned by the State of Colorado
The USGS 7.5 Minute Quadrangle Maps for Milner and Mt. Harris contain the described affected area. A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection at the Hayden Public Library, 201 E. Jefferson Avenue, Hayden, Colorado 81639.
