Steamboat briefs: Classical radio station seeks funding support
Friday, August 12, 2011
The cost of bringing classical music programming to the Yampa Valley on FM radio has not gone down and the board of the nonprofit West Slope FM is asking for help to shore up its balance sheet.
West Slope FM board member Jan Vail said this month that the organization has a little more than $5,000 in its bank account after spending $4,800 on annual costs including equipment maintenance. The projected 2012 expenses could consume the balance on hand.
West Slope FM is authorized to capture the satellite signal of WWFM in Trenton, N.J., then uses a radio transformer and tower on Mount Werner to rebroadcast the programming of the New Jersey radio station at 91.1 FM.
Contributions may be sent to Vail at West Slope FM, 1821 Kamar Plaza, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487 or made by calling 970-879-0917.
Steamboat community blood drive is Thursday
Blood donations drop by as much as 20 percent in summer but the need for blood remains constant. To help fill that need, there will be a Steamboat community blood drive, sponsored by the Yampa Valley Medical Center auxiliary, from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Yampa Valley Medical Center. To schedule an appointment, call Bonfils Appointment Center at 800-365-0006, option 2, or sign up at www.bonfils.org, site code 0234. Walk-ins are welcome after 3:30 as space permits. Please eat a full meal and drink plenty of water before donating blood.
