Steamboat Springs Farewell readers.
Today is the final day the Aging Well page will appear in the Steamboat Today.
The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association introduced the page five years ago to promote its new Aging Well program, developed to improve the health of adults 50 and older in our region.
In addition to highlighting Aging Well fitness and wellness opportunities, the Aging Well page has drawn awareness to other local organizations and events benefitting older adults.
It also has provided in-depth information about exercise, nutrition, chronic conditions, volunteerism, caregiving, mental health and many other topics related to older adults’ wellbeing.
The page has grown with the Aging Well program, which has seen more than 1,600 older adults participate in fitness classes, Wellness Day programs and foot care and senior wellness clinics — often on a regular basis.
The page has largely filled its purpose, so VNA staff has decided to re-focus resources on sustaining Aging Well classes and programs that have become an important part of many older residents’ health routines.
“The Aging Well page has been a valuable tool in helping us reach older adults in our communities,” said Donna Hackley, director of Wellness and Aging Services at the VNA. “Though it’s hard to end a good thing, we feel it’s important to focus as much energy and resources as possible toward keeping our programs available and affordable to those we are helping.”
The VNA is a nonprofit agency providing a community health center, home health, hospice and palliative care, public health and wellness and aging services. Many of its programs are dependent on grant funds and donations.
Most Aging Well classes and services are offered for a small suggested donation to help cover the cost of providing programs.
Aging Well will continue to offer ongoing, new and specialty fitness and wellness programs in Routt and Moffat counties. Readers will find updates about Aging Well offerings and events in VNA advertisements and the News in Brief and Happenings sections of the newspapers.
The VNA’s website, www.nwcovna.org, provides Aging Well schedules and information. VNA and Aging Well news also can be found on Facebook and Twitter. Printed class schedules also are available in community centers and other locations.
Aging Well staff is always available to answer questions or provide more information about our programs. Call 970-871-7676.
