2011 Sailors girls JV lacrosse schedule
Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School girls junior varsity played its best game of the season, dispatching the Summit junior varsity, 7-4, on Thursday.
Even without their top scorer Aleigh Aurin, the Sailors were able to come away with the victory.
Aurin hurt her ankle in a game Tuesday against Eagle Valley.
Summit took an early 1-0 lead before Steamboat co-captain Nikki Fry moved from defense to offense.
Fry scored four first-half goals and added an assist to give Steamboat the lead.
Courtney Reynolds added another Steamboat goal, and Kayla Voeltzel and Dominique Powers each had assists in the first half to give Steamboat a 5-1 halftime lead.
Summit answered with three second-half goals, and Steamboat got goals from Hannah Hartley and Nastassija Voyich for the final result.
“It was a nice change of pace to play a game in sunny weather with relatively clear skies,” Steamboat coach Betsy Frick said. “It started to cool off near the end of the second half as the sun went behind the mountains.”
Steamboat is now 4-3 on the season. Steamboat concludes the season at 6 p.m. Friday at Aspen.
