Kyteler's Irish Pub in Steamboat faces repossession

Steamboat Springs Kyteler’s Irish Pub in Steamboat Springs appears to be permanently closed before it ever opened.
“They have defaulted on their rent, and we are in the process of repossessing the site,” Brent Pearson, co-manager of Steamboat Partners, said Wednesday.
A notice to that effect is posted at Kyteler’s and dated April 15.
Steamboat Partners owns Wildhorse Marketplace on Mount Werner Road. Kyteler’s has occupied a corner location in the shopping plaza for at least a year and initially intended to open early in spring 2010, but unexplained delays stalled plans.
Interior work accelerated this winter, though, and the pub appeared on the verge of opening in February. But several workers walked off the site in March, citing a lack of payment for weeks or months of work.
Gerry Howard owns Kyteler’s. Howard could not be reached Wednesday and has not returned phone messages for more than a month. State business records show Howard also owned a now-closed Irish pub in Evergreen.
At least 15 workers involved with Kyteler’s construction have contacted a lawyer for help in securing owed money. Overdue payments to workers, vendors and suppliers could total more than $150,000, local lawyer Ralph Cantafio has said.
