Federal bureau report shows tourism boost

The Bureau of Economic Analysis, a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce, said travel and tourism spending showed a nationwide 3 percent increase in the second quarter of 2010. That follows an increase of 5 percent in this year’s first quarter, the bureau reported. Travel and tourism prices are increasing, as well, rising 2.7 percent in 2010’s second quarter after an increase of 4.1 percent in this year’s first quarter.

The bureau released findings last week showing a 3.9 percent increase in passenger air transportation spending in the second quarter. Accommodations spending slowed, however, increasing just 6.1 percent in the second quarter after a 13.4 percent increase in this year’s first quarter.
