Steamboat briefs: Children’s book club kits are available at library


— Local children can start their own book clubs with Bud Werner Memorial Library’s Book Buzz Kits. Each kit contains eight paperback copies of books and discussion questions for a variety of beloved titles for boys and girls ages 7 to 12. Kits can be checked out for six weeks. They can be reserved for as long as three months in advance by calling the children’s library at 970-879-0240, ext. 314.

YVMC early blood draws are set for Oct. 5 to 8

Appointments are available for Yampa Valley Medical Center’s early blood draws Oct. 5 to 8. Online registration is available for the low-cost blood tests at, according to a news release. The blood draws are in advance of the Fall Into Health YVMC Community Health Fair from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 23.

“Early blood draws have been a popular addition to the health fair because we allow people to select a date and time that is most convenient for them,” YVMC Wellness and Community Education Director Lisa Bankard said in the release. “Many time slots are still available between 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. October 5 to 8.”

Available blood tests are a health profile including cholesterol and glucose, complete blood count, hemoglobin A1C and prostate-specific antigen for men.
