— The smoke in downtown Oak Creek this afternoon is a result of a training exercise for the Oak Creek Fire Protection District, fire officials at the scene said. Routt County Communications dispatchers received at least one call from a concerned resident this afternoon.

At Thursday's Town Board meeting this was mentioned. It was also said that there would be signs saying "controlled burn, do not report" or to that effect would be used.

I do not know where they put those signs, but none were visible when entering the town from the north and that much smoke that close to downtown was certainly ominous.

Clearly, in the future, signs need to be on 131 in both directions upon entering town. And probably in places visible for those looking and concerned at the smoke. This fire was just over a little hill from downtown, but there was nothing on the hill indicating that this was a controlled burn.
