If you go
What: Oak Creek Town Board meeting
When: 7 p.m. today
Where: Oak Creek Town Hall, 129 Nancy Crawford Blvd.
Steamboat Springs Jacob Wise and his medical marijuana dispensary will go before the Oak Creek Town Board tonight in an attempt to get approval for an 1,800-square-foot grow space in downtown Oak Creek.
Wise, the owner of Mary’s dispensary, said the grow space is a potential boon to his business — the only marijuana dispensary in Oak Creek.
“The bottom line is square footage equals opportunity, and that’s all it boils down to,” he said.
Wise said he contracts out the growing to two other men, and the request for the land-use change of minor impact would allow them to grow at the location in the 100 block of Moffat Avenue.
Wise said the owner of the building approached him about setting up shop in the space.
This is a continuation of a hearing that began July 22.
At that meeting, Wise withdrew his application to put a grow space in a building on Arthur Street when two other men got the lease to the building.
He also had an application to open a grow space in the Circle R Building, the former home of Black Mountain Tavern, at Nancy Crawford Boulevard and Sharp Street.
Town Board members discouraged Wise from using that building because it also houses apartments, and Wise asked for a continuation to find a new place.
Town Code prohibits dispensaries from being near parks, but there is no such regulation for grow operations.
Mayor Nikki Knoebel said the Town Board will consider the possibility, but she said there is no guarantee it will go to a vote.
“I think that will be a big discussion of whether that’s the right spot,” she said.
Other agenda items
Town Board members will meet at 6 p.m. today with Department of Local Affairs agent Greg Winkler to discuss the town’s water tank replacement project.
During the regular board meeting to follow, Mike Yurich will present information about giving the fire station at 131 E. Main St. to the Oak Creek Fire Protection District.
The town owns the building and allows the fire department to use it.
The town is not expected to take any action on the presentation.
