Riders known for their work on the mountain take to the roads

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s elite cycling program participated in the second stage of the second annual Steamboat Springs Stage Race today, the Marabou Ranch Circuit Race that took junior riders four laps and 18 miles around a loop.

Steamboat football falls to Holy Family, 37-6

The Steamboat Springs High School football team couldn’t overcome a big second half by Holy Family on Saturday in Broom­field, eventually falling, 37-6. Steamboat (now 0-2) trailed Holy Family (now 1-0) 12-0 at halftime, before the Tigers scored two touchdowns to open the third quarter to take a commanding 27-0 lead.

Sailors jumped out 4-0 in the first half on 2 Christopher Holmquist goals

Steamboat Springs High School soccer coach Rob Bohl­mann was the first to admit that Steamboat got some breaks in its opening game of the season against Grand Junction Central. But for a team that came into the year unsure of what it would be, and that wouldn’t publicly put out its goals, Saturday’s 6-0 home win has to feel pretty darn good.

Weekend events in Routt County

Watch as almost 100 dogs compete by chasing, herding and cutting flocks of sheep in an open field at the Steamboat Stock Dog Challenge from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday. There will be educational activities for children demonstrating the rich heritage of the sheep industry in Northwest Colorado.

Steamboat briefs: City softball tournament set for Sept. 18 and 19

The city of Steamboat Springs will host a men’s 12-inch double elimination softball tournament Sept. 18 and 19. The cost is $195 per team, and the registration deadline is Thursday.

Now, back on the road with his band of five years, Great American Taxi, guitarist and singer Herman admitted that he’s an “old curmudgeon” in the Colorado music scene.
