Serafy, Podzemny earn golf wins at Break the Boat Skills Challenge

Steamboat Springs — Ted Serafy and Dennis Podzemny took top honors last weekend in the Steamboat Golf Club’s second annual Break the Boat Skills Challenge.
The event, styled after the Golf Channel’s reality series “The Big Break,” took place Saturday at the Steamboat Golf Club. Twenty-four players competed for cash in two handicap-based divisions. The players took part in a number of skill challenges designed to test their ability on the golf course.
Serafy topped the 0-14 handicap division, which included 10 golfers, to take home a $200 prize. Toby Spikes finished second and pocketed $50 for his efforts. Podzemny won the 15 and above handicap division to earn a $250 prize. Linda Danter was second.
“This is our second year hosting the event,” organizer Kellie Banisky said. “I think we about doubled last year’s field.”
