— Travel company Orbitz has released its top 10 early ski destinations, “offering pre-season snow seekers the insight they need to book the best destinations before peak season begins,” according to a news release.

Steamboat Ski Area was No. 10.

Lake Tahoe in California, Park City in Utah, Brecken­ridge, Vail, Whistler in British Columbia, Aspen and Mammoth in California were the top seven. Jackson, Wyo., and Snowmass tied for eighth, and Steamboat Springs came next.

Boys & Girls Club to host Halloween event today

The Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat Springs is hosting a Monster Mash for middle-schoolers from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Eighth Street Gym between Aspen Street and Pine Street. The event will include a costume contest, music from DJ Spooks, a fog machine and a light show. Admission is free, and free soda and popcorn will be provided. Donations are welcome. Donations being accepted for West African village

Donations of used clothes, shoes, bikes, water filters and pumps, blankets and computers are needed for Sori Malé, Mauritania, in West Africa. A local Mauritanian is helping his home village. Call 970-870-3069 for more information.

Home builders seeking sponsors for Toys for Tots

The Home Builders Assoc­iation of Steamboat is seeking sponsors and donations for its second annual Toys for Tots fundraiser and toy distribution. The group plans to serve families in Routt, Moffat and Grand counties this holiday season. Sponsorship levels are $500 for Angel Sponsors, $300 for Santa Sponsors and $100 for Snowman Sponsors. Checks can be made out to HBA Steamboat with “HBA Steamboat/Toys for Tots Fundraiser” in the memo line.

VNA offers meningitis vaccines for students

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other leading medical groups recommend meningococcal vaccine for preteens and teens ages 11 to 18, College freshmen living in dormitories, and children ages 2 to 10 years who are at increased risk or if elected by their health care providers and parents. VNA will be offering free breast and cervical exams

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association has announced a program to reduce breast and cervical cancer mortality through the Women’s Wellness Connection. The WWC provides free breast and cervical exams and selected diagnostic services to women ages 40 to 65 who meet financial qualifications. The program targets women who have not had a mammogram or Pap test within the past year or women who have lost insurance, had an abnormal finding, and need follow-up. Low-cost immunizations offered for limited time

Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is offering $14 adult immunizations for a limited time for MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), HPV, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Pneumococcal (Pnemonia), Meningococcal (Meningitis), Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, Pertusis) and Hepatitis A and B (Hepatitis vaccines are for people with risk factors).
