Steamboat Springs Routt County Sheriff Gary Wall, 69, was airlifted to a Denver-area hospital overnight with what he said were complications from the flu.
Wall, speaking by cell phone from the hospital today, said he was “just really sick” and wanted to get to the Denver hospital. He declined to say which hospital he was taken to.
His wife, Jenny Wall, said her husband is recovering and the couple intends to return to Steamboat Springs on Friday.
Wall, a Democrat, is up for re-election this year and is in a heated contest with Republican Garrett Wiggins. Wall was scheduled to appear tonight at a candidate forum. Wiggins is expected to attend the forum, which will start with a 5 p.m. social hour at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. The candidates are scheduled to speak starting at 5:45 p.m.

If he wont tell us which hospital he's in, how do we know where to send the flowers?

Nothing personal to Sheriff Wall and I wish him all the best...BUT....YVMC is not capable of handling the flu? Routt County Insurance goes up 40% due to "elderly employees and major claims" last year and here we are air lifting to Denver for an overnight stay? Perhaps there's something missing from this story. And yes I know its a Dr's decision but really folks........air lifted for an overnight stay because our YVMC could not handle it?.....Something's going on here besides proper health care.
