James Winter: ‘Green Rush’ article shows Pilot’s anything-goes attitude
Sunday, October 10, 2010
Steamboat Springs “Green Rush,” your preceding editorial (it is an editorial) to the series tells a lot about the philosophy of the Steamboat Pilot & Today. An honest headline such as “The Pilot & Today endorses and supports the use of recreational marijuana” would have been appropriate. You will point out that the issue is medical marijuana.
Anyone who thinks that medical need is a significant factor in this issue has been using too much recreational/medical(?) marijuana.
What does a green RUSH have to do with medical treatment?
Once again, the Pilot & Today encourages an anything-goes attitude in our confused culture. You should be ashamed.

I also agree and do not even have an interest in reading the articles. What a waste of trees to print this drivel . . . . . . . .

Calling something "drivel" which you said you did not even read...how well-informed you must be!

well informed through the experience of just having my eyes and ears open . . . Just how many 15 to 70 year olds do you think haven't been exposed to MJ thru 1) using, 2) being around people who used or are currently using whether prescribed or not 3) been at parties where it has been available 4) had your high school kids come home from a party where "so-and-so's mom smoked with us" 5) talked with your kids about risks in smoking 6) followed the California story for years about their political battles 7) followed the Today stories over the years about the Hayden resident and his battle with the legal system, etc etc etc. You must have had your head in the sand for the last 50 years if you were not getting the education you wanted!!!!! There is so much more out there that is truly new-worthy.

is there a medical reason for alchohol or does it exist just so people can get high, dull their pain, ease stress etc etc etc.

1999- My point wasn't that MJ is bad - I truly believe it has medicinal powers and have thought so for a long time--for people like Don in Hayden. My point was that we have been educated to death about pot for many years. For the Today to spend a FRONT page series on it is a waste of trees!!

Cindy – I certainly have been exposed to MJ in my life. I also have been at parties where it has been offered. I also have followed the CA situation. Admittedly, my child has not yet come home after a party and said he/she was smoking with a mom, but I may be faced with that reality someday. My point, which you seem to have missed, was simply that it is incredibly audacious to comment on an series of articles which you didn’t even read. It seems like the very definition of self-importance. You want to take a stance, I’m all for it, but I can’t take you seriously if you admit to your ignorance while claiming your superiority. Good day.

All I can say is, I guess we'll be seeing all of you at the polls.
2012 Let's overturn the BS!

I think Mr. Winter is completely missing the point of green RUSH. I took this to mean that the industry is booming, like a gold RUSH. Not a head rush. Guess it could mean both but I'm personally glad to read about industries that are growing and affecting our cities and towns. Thanks Pilot!

Wow, Instead of learning about weed like I did, from other immature teens and pre-teens. My kid gets to read about weed in the local paper. With facts and information he can actually refer to and check out for himself. Man oh Man...how horrible of the paper to bring such a topic to the publics attention in an open manner. I personally found the articles informative and interesting. Not just about the buzz, but the economic and medical values as well. And let us not forget that when the kids read this and see it in print it is a lot easier for them to ask questions. It isn't such a taboo. Thanks Pilot.

And..... What is happening is happening. Grow with your kids dont try to run and hide. Ahhhh... There are not to many places beside Stepford Wives-Town to run to. You can live and learn or be caught unawares and stupid. My kid will have the advantage of knowing that knowledge is out there. Even if I dont agree with the any given point of change. I would never hold my kid back from learning. About any subject or topic just because I dont agree with said topic. I would be doing him a disservice and disrespecting him for doing so.

And yes, if I disagree I speak up. Adds to the whole debate/learning thing. For me too.
