Steamboat Springs Summer is over, but Lisa Barbour can’t think of a good reason to stop running in Steamboat Springs.
Barbour is the director of the new Steamboat Springs Winter Running Series, which kicks off Saturday with the Soda Creek Sneak — the first event of the four-race series.
“I really like to run in the winter,” Barbour said. “It’s fun and a great way to stay in shape.”
This is the first year for the four-event series, with events beginning this weekend and running through March.
The Soda Creek Sneak is a fundraiser for the Soda Creek Elementary School’s Parent Information Committee. The event begins at 8 a.m. with 10- and 5-kilometer races. At 9 a.m. there also will be a 1-kilometer run. All of the races will start and finish at Soda Creek and will follow routes toward Strawberry Park.
The cost to enter the race is $25. Children as old as 16 pay $1 for each year of their age.
Runners can pre-register online at www.runningseries.com or at Ski Haus in Steamboat Springs.
“We wanted a healthy event that everyone in the community could be a part of,” said Kristie Wheeler, a volunteer with the Soda Creek PIC.
The running event also will mark the start of the Winter Running Series. Other events are the Turkey Trot, a 5-mile race on Thanksgiving, the 10-kilometer Love the Run You’re With on Feb. 13 and the Moonlight 10K on March 13.
