The Hayden High School volleyball team picked up a 3-2 win Friday at Paonia, continuing its streak of sterling district play.
The win improved the Tigers to 7-5 overall and 6-1 in the district.
Hayden won, 15-25, 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 15-6.
After dropping the first game and winning the second two, Hayden had a chance to close it out in four games.
But the Tigers let that one slip away, and it all came down to the fifth game.
“I told them they have a chance to win, so show me what you can do,” Hayden coach Greg Johnson said. “They just stepped up and dominated from the first point.”
Johnson said Jacie Temple and Delanie VeDepo did a good job of getting the ball to the middle, where Aubree Haskins and Erin Koehler dominated the net. He also said Morgan Bell started hitting to her ability, giving the Tigers a new element in their attack.
Hayden next plays at 3 p.m. today at home against Vail Mountain.
