Steamboat briefs: Mainstreet to host Merry Mainstreet, light parade

— Mainstreet Steamboat Sp­­rings will host the Merry Main­­­­street event from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11 on Lincoln Avenue. Mainstreet is inviting entries for the Mainstreet Light Parade as part of the event. Along the lines of the Parade of Lights held in Denver each December, each entry must have some element of lighting included. The parade will take place at 5:30 p.m., and there is no entry fee. Awards will be given for most lights, best theme and largest group. No horses are allowed. Chamber group to host a luncheon and mixer Friday

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association hosts a sustainable business networking luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Sweetwater Grill on Yampa Street. The event is an opportunity to network with local sustainable businesses. The cost is $5 for members of the Cham­ber’s Sustainable Business Pro­gram and $15 for guests. Also Friday, the Chamber and several local groups are hosting a business after-hours mixer at the Hometown Holiday Shopping Gala, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library. The event includes free food and drink, with shopping from more than 20 local entities.

Winter activity mixer set for Dec. 1 at the Sheraton

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association is hosting a winter activity mixer from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort. The event is an opportunity to talk with front-line employees — concierges, bell staff, front desk staff, reservations, etc. — who refer visitors to local businesses and attractions. Great American Smokeout to be celebrated Nov. 18

The American Cancer Society is marking the 35th Great American Smokeout on Nov. 18 by encouraging smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day. Those who want help quitting can call the Colorado Quitline at 1-800-784-8669 or visit www.coquitline.org.

Friends of backcountry to host fundraising ball Dec. 4

The Friends of the Routt Backcountry are hosting their 12th annual Backcountry Ball from 7 p.m. to midnight Dec. 4 at Depot Art Center. Kip Strean will perform, and there will be a silent auction. Tickets are $25 at the door and $20 in advance. They’ll be available at All That Jazz starting Tuesday.
