The Yampa Valley Sustainability Council and Yampa Valley Recycles are celebrating America Recycles Day with a community recycling drop-off center from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Meadows Parking Lot at Pine Grove Road and Mount Werner Road. The drop-off is for residential recyclers only; no commercial drop-offs will be accepted.
In addition to traditional recyclables such as paper, glass and plastics, the Nov. 13 event will allow for the collection of working and nonworking electronics; yard waste; building materials; bikes, including bike tires and tubes; wine corks; shoes; scrap metal; working and nonworking appliances; latex paint; motor oil; cooking oil; batteries; phone books; plastic bags; compact fluorescent light bulbs; fluorescent tube light bulbs; skis; shredded paper; and fabric and clothing not suitable for reuse. However, some of the items may require a small fee, such as electronics, appliances with Freon, latex paint and motor oil. Visiting Nurse Association offers pneumonia vaccine
Friday is World Pneumonia Day. The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association encourages all smokers or those with underlying health conditions to receive the pneumonia vaccine. The VNA offers the vaccine for $14 to all adults. Call 970-879-1632.

Women in Networking to meet at noon Wednesday
Women in Networking meets from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sweetwater Grill on Yampa Street. The $11 cost includes lunch and gratuity. The event gives each attendee the opportunity to give a 30-second introduction of their business. Take about a dozen business cards to pass out to fellow attendees. Children now can check out library book club kits
Local children can start their own Kids’ Book Clubs with Bud Werner Memorial Library’s Book Buzz Kits. Each kit contains eight paperback copies of books and discussion questions for a variety of beloved titles for boys and girls ages 7 to 12. Kits can be checked out for six weeks. They can be reserved for as many as three months in advance by calling the children’s library at 970-879-0240, ext. 314.
