— Steamboat Springs Police Department detectives are gathering evidence in a reported embezzlement of $14,000 from a downtown Steamboat Springs dental office.

The money was reported missing from Alpine Family Dentistry last week. Detective Dave Kleiber said a suspect has been identified, but police are waiting for financial data from the office’s accountant before any arrests are made. Kleiber said the amount of money stolen could change as the business’s accounts are scrutinized.

Alpine Family Dentistry reported the money missing Oct. 27.

Night delays on US 40 near Hayden to start today

Xcel Energy has announced upcoming road closures on U.S. Highway 40 near Hayden as construction crews install a bridge over the highway, according to a news release. This is part of the Hayden rail spur project.

Work to set girders over U.S. 40 is scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. today through Friday. U.S. 40 will be closed at mile marker 113 just east of Routt County Road 27 for as long as 45 minutes at a time throughout each night, the news release stated.

Xcel Energy asked drivers to prepare for 45-minute delays or plan an alternative route on those evenings. There will be one-lane restrictions on U.S. Highway 40 for three weeks after the overnight construction.

The Hayden Rail Spur project consists of building a new rail line from the Union Pacific Mainline over U.S. 40, over a relocated section of C.R. 27 and into Hayden Station. Each highway crossing involves separated rail bridges.

Once completed, Xcel Energy will use the rail spur at Hayden Station to transport coal to the power plant for the generation of the electricity used in the Yampa Valley and in other parts of Colorado. The reconstructed rail spur is scheduled to be operational at the end of 2011, the release stated.
